ABC Dramatics was established in 1991. Our spiritual home is Caerwys Town Hall, where we install a full stage and theatre set with professional standard sound and lighting, our maximum capacity is around 100. We also perform at other venues, such as Theatre Clwyd, Mold and Theatr Twm o'r Nant, Denbigh. We rehearse most weeks for two main performances a year, (spring & winter). We strive to provide a professional theatrical experience for our audiences. This isnt just Am-Dram, this is ABC Dramatics. In addition to the actors, various local community members contribute to the production through costume design, stage & set, makeup, sound, lighting and publicity. Although based in Caerwys, our members come also come from across Flintshire & Denbighshire.
We always welcome new members, whether for on stage or off stage. All members are encouraged to 'muck-in' and learn all the aspects of theatre.
We are a not-for-profit society and our Membership for over 16s is still only £10 per year and there are currently no additional show or costume fees.
ABC Dramatics is proud to announce its forthcoming production: "Beyond a Joke," a delightful farce. Set in contemporary times within the charming yet accident-prone country residence of Andrew and Jane, this production unfolds in a location marked by the tragic yet comical demise of six individuals, each due to unfortunate incidents. Upon the unknowing arrival of daughter Sally's partner, Geoff, who misinterprets the humorous chaos of conversation to suspect nefarious reasons behind the prior fatalities.
Directed by local Director John Wylde who regards this as a most ambitious undertakings by ABC Dramatics. The production features a technically intricate split-set design which means the society to perform 'away from home' for the first time in recent years; "Beyond a Joke" will be presented at Denbigh's Twm 'or Nant Theatre from 3rd to 5th April.
Beyond a Joke was first performed for the 1979 summer season at the Shanklin Theatre, Isle of Wight, opening on July 2nd by Newpalm Productions. It starred Arthur Lowe, of Dad’s Army fame, and his wife, Joan Cooper.
The comedy is written by Derek Benfield, a familiar face to British TV viewers as an actor in “Brothers” (1970s) and “Hetty Wainthropp Investigates” (1990s). more information on Derek Benfield
